Look back to look forward
A mid year reflection and reset conversation for adults
Hello dear one,
I trust you are well.
Welcome to June!
It is exciting to see how far we have come.
In some ways, June feels like the perfect time to pause, reflect, and review our progress so far. For many of us, the goals we were excited about in January now feel like history. Not because they no longer matter. But because life happened. Work got busy, responsibilities increased, and unexpected challenges showed up. Somewhere between February and now, many of us have quietly stepped off the path we originally set for ourselves.
If that’s you, you’re not alone.
Studies suggest that only a small percentage of people achieve the goals they set at the beginning of the year. Most people don’t fail because they lack ambition. They lose momentum because life gets loud, and they never stop long enough to reset.
That’s what I want us to do this month. We will not set new goals, nor just chase new information. We will pause long enough to remember what matters.
Most people don’t fail because they lack ambition. They lose momentum because life gets loud, and they never stop long enough to reset.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll revisit our lives through three lenses: Spiritual, Professional, and Personal.
We’ll ask honest questions and make practical adjustments that can help us finish the year stronger than we started.
Spiritually: Are You Still in Sync with God?
Many of us started the year with clarity. A word from God. A solid conviction. A sense of direction. Then life got noisy.
The good news is that God is the Master Navigator. Even when we miss a turn, He knows how to reroute us.
Personally: Are You Still Clear About Who You Are Becoming?
Personal goals are often the first things we sacrifice. We get busy helping everyone else, solving problems, paying bills and meeting responsibilities. But who you are becoming matters. In fact, it matters more than what you achieve.
Professionally: Are You Still Moving With Purpose?
Take a step back and look at your work. Not just what you’ve been doing, but what it has been for. Have you been intentionally building something meaningful, or have you simply been reacting to whatever comes your way? Busyness is not the same as progress.
Your Mid-Year Reset Challenge
1. Review Honestly
I like to review my life through three categories: SPP: Spiritual, Professional, and Personal. For each category, ask:
What has happened so far?
What is working?
What isn’t working?
What needs to change?
The goal isn’t to be filled with guilt but to gain perspective that will help you do better.
2. Simplify
Many of us are carrying too much. Too many goals, too many commitments, too many distractions. The plan is to simplify. Choose a few priorities that truly matter and focus your energy there. Start with the categories listed above.
3. Rebuild Your Structure
Good intentions need systems. Create routines that support the life you’re trying to build. Think about your mornings, evenings, daily habits, and weekly rhythms. Success is usually hidden inside ordinary routines.
4. Take One Visible Action This Week
Stop looking for more information. You probably already know what you need to do next. Take one visible step this week: Send the application, restart the daily Bible reading habit, have that conversation with your mentor, start the project.
Regain your momentum by taking baby steps again.
Next week, we will do a deep dive into our Spiritual Goals!
Have the best of this week.
I love you and I am rooting for you.
